Still waters

The pool above the Jordan St. dam on Woods Creek.

A fenced garden and shed are reflected on a particularly calm winter day. This pool is a favorite with children (not for swimming -- but for fishing, rock skipping, and throwing things in to watch them go over the dam) since it's just beyond the school playground.

There's a great blue heron who frequents this spot. I've been stalking him, but so far to no avail. It's good to have creatures around who are still too wild to let you get close.

Just beyond the dam, to the right of this photo, is this bridge.

What a stunning reflection MK! Wow! Do herons leave for the winter? We had one at our pond over the summer but I kind of forgot about him till you mentioned them. My neighbor said there used to be 2 of them but now it's just the one.

Lovely looking spot, MK and your image is stunning. Please keeping stalking that heron: I would love to see even a distant shot. I agree that the rust colour of that bridge is drop-dead gorgeous. We have that style of pre-rusted rust in structures over here. Very designer-grunge.

I've just discovered, watching this great photo, that I happened to be in your country, I mean Virginia, some time ago! Actually, I travelled south to Atlanta and stayed for one night in a hotel near Lexington, just 15 minutes walk from a beautiful natural bridge! Although I had no time to spend there more days, watching your lovely pictures now, I have immiedately remembered these views, so calm and colorful! Thanks for bringing nice memories...:)

Thank you for your comments, everyone. (I seem to be always behind in these things!) That heron is still here - I don't think they leave for the winter, at least not this far south.

Prado - How nice that you have been to this area! I want to do a post on the Natural Bridge at some point (so far I am staying closer to home); our county, "Rockbridge," is named after it. You're very welcome for the memories -- I hope some day to visit your neck of the woods!
